Saturday Nite Live Review

07/13/2005 6:54 AM, AMG

By their name alone, Idjut Boys sound as if they should be a cheeseball techno act, but Dan Tyler and Conrad McDonnell are quite the contrary on their first mix CD, Saturday Nite Live. Though all the tracks sound to be vintage Paradise Garage finds, they are all relatively new releases. Saturday Nite Live is a nonstop flow of funk-influenced garage style house music. The track selection, including Isolee, Aril Brikha, and a Francois K. remix of Femi Kuti, have just the right amount of variety to keep the energy flowing. What would normally be an odd mix from Brikha's pure synthesizer sound to the deep house sound of Victor Davies' vocal "Run Away Train" works beautifully with Idjuts behind the wheel. Where most would fumble, Saturday Nite Live makes a master puzzle out of odd, classic, and soulful pieces. ~ Diana Potts, All Music Guide
