Studio Sessions Review
07/13/2005 7:24 AM, AMG
Taking rehearsal tapes from 1972 while putting together Raw Power, Studio Sessions finds the Stooges escaping their bottle and egg pelting audience for the time being and concentrating on making raw rock & roll without the aid of stage theatrics. The sound quality isn't great, but that doesn't really play into the Stooges listening experience anyway. Containing versions of "Death Trip," "Johanna," and "Head On," while "Hard to Beat" and "Raw Power" (the latter containing background vocals) are rough mixes taken from a radio broadcast over Detroit underground pioneer WABX. A lot of this material has been issued elsewhere, but if you're a Stooges completist you'll want this. ~ Al Campbell, All Music Guide
