I'll Remember: Theme From The Motion Picture With Honors Review
07/13/2005 6:25 AM, AMG
"I'll Remember," the theme from the motion picture With Honors, bridged the gap between Madonna's notorious Erotica period and her softer, urban-tinged Bedtime Stories period. The song proved to be a massive, if somewhat of a sleeper, hit, peaking at number two for several weeks in the U.S., and spending half a year on the charts. It was also a huge adult contemporary hit. The maxi-single was issued with four cuts, three being different versions of "I'll Remember" and the fourth being a live version of her Erotica, reggae-influenced album track "Why It's So Hard." The mixes of "I'll Remember" were conjured by William Orbit, giving each version an ethereal, spacey, and very mellow feel. The "Guerilla Beach" mix departs quite a bit from the original, which is as soft and adult contemporary-friendly as Madonna gets, while the "Orbit Remix" remains more faithful to its source. The album version of the song later resurfaced on her ballads collection Something to Remember, but the mixes are worthwhile for fans of her William Orbit-produced work. ~ Jose Promis, All Music Guide
