As I Die Review

This EP is the companion to the Shades of God album. Here there was only the slightest hint of Holmes' capabilities beyond a death metal growl: "Rape of Virtue" features some near-singing. Gregor Mackintosh's lead guitar is mesmerizing as always in its fusion of baroque with gothic metal. The cover of an Atomic Rooster song, "Death Walks Behind You," is interesting; however, neither the album nor the EP give much hint of the splendor that was to come on their subsequent albums. ~ Christopher Anderson, All Music Guide
