Goats Head Soup
01/01/1973 3:00 AM, LAUNCH Tristram Lozaw
Goats Head may be a "B" Stones album-- good songs gone a bit gooey thick and excessively '70s--but it's still a comparative treat. Mick Taylor lacks the rhythmic presence of Jones or Wood, but his guitar prowess energizes the album's best tracks: rock-outs like "Star Star" and ballads like "Angie." Curiosity: the CD's sound gets fuzzy toward the end, just like a tonearm approaching a vinyl Goats Head's inside grooves.
