Goodbye Yellow Brick Road
01/01/1973 3:00 AM, LAUNCH Dave DiMartino
A highly regarded set that would have definitely been improved had it been a single rather than double album. Just about every pop music sound imaginable gets a workout here, most notably the R&B-ish "Bennie And The Jets," the ballad (and later hit) "Candle In The Wind," the bouncy title track, and the prog-rock-sounding opening track "Funeral For A Friend (Love Lies Bleeding)." This may mark the end of Elton's remarkable streak of top-line albums.
