Aquemini
09/29/1998 3:00 AM, LAUNCH B_Sarah Meadows
The fellas who delivered the critically acclaimed Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik and the uplifting ATLiens, are inviting listeners into their third opus, Aquemini. Big Boi and Andre still offer an array of southern fried hip-hop tastes for your palate. On this latest offering they drop verses that will force you to stop, listen, and think. Tracks like the electronically enhanced "Synthesizer," the moody title track, the upbeat "Skew It On The Bar-B," and the thought-provoking "SpottieOttieDopalisicious" explore the many ills of the urban communities and keep the album moving along nicely. Guest appearances are made by Wu-Tang Clan member Raekwon, George Clinton, and Goodie Mob. Erykah Badu even lends her sultry vocals to the album. This album is a detour for the duo, so hopefully diehard Outkast fans won't be disappointed. But it is a solid effort--and worth a listen.
